The West Australian Police service is targeting interstate Defence Force personnel in its latest recruiting drive.
A recruiting team has travelled to Darwin and went to the Robertson Barracks to make a presentation to about 200 personnel considering leaving the armed forces. These "resettlement seminars" are a regular event in the ADF.
The minimum age to join the WA Police is 18 and there is no stated maximum. Applicants undertake a year 12 standard entry test as outlined in the minimum required entry standards page on the police recruiting web site.
Trudi Angwin from WA Police says ADF personnel are prime candidates to become police officers because they already have a lot of the required skills.
She says joining the police force often appeals to them.
"Often a lot of people exiting ADF don't necessarily want to go into what they perceive as full civilian life," she said.
Most personnel who join the police force will have to undertake the normal six month training course, however those with military police experience may be on the beat sooner.
